1953 Calypso singer David Michael Rudder is born in Belmont, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

1969 Don Drummond passes away in Kingston's Bellevue mental asylum.

He had been locked up there after killing his common-law wife Marguerita in 1965. They say he died by his own hand but foul play is suspected as he was reported to be in excellent physical health (aged 37).

At 11:45 a.m. on this day, only forty hours after he left Germany, he dies of melanoma cancer at Miami's Cedars of Lebanon Hospital.

1985 Mighty Diamonds perform at Hibiya Yagai Ongakudo in Tokyo, Japan.

This concert was recorded as their first live album "Live In Tokyo" on Overheat Records. Two Japanese musician, Kazufumi "Echo" Kodama (trumpet) and Akihito Masui (trombone), both are member of dub band Mute Beat, took part in the concert.

19XX Little Roy (Earl Lowe) recorded "Bongo Nyah" for Lloyd Daley, The Matador. It became his first hit and the biggest hit of Matador Prouctions. Besides it, The Creators' "Bad Name", Lloyd Charmers' "Zylon" and Lloyd Robinson's "Death A Come" ware recorded for Daley on this day. "Zylon" should have been the flip sie of "Death A Come" but it became the hit side.

1989 Tiger is set free from his arrest for overstay in USA on April 30th and is deported to Jamaica.

Few days after that, he recorded for the album "Good Boy Me" (released on NEC Avenue, Japan).

1999 Augustus Pablo (Horace Swaby) passes away at University Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica, after a long illness (age 45).

The cause was myasthenia gravis, a nerve disorder, said his brother, Garth Swaby. The London Times reported he died of a muscular disease. The MUSIC Watch reported the cause was pneumonia.

1997 Tony Johnson, co-founder of Reggae Sunsplash, passes away (dies of "a sudden and massive heart attack" according to attending paramedics) at his home in Pasadena, Carifornia, USA. (Age 56).

1999 Show promoter Gavin Sharpe passes away at the age of 27.

Sharpe was stabbed to death on the roadway outside his home at about 8pm., and was taken the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
